Letter of support from Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing on behalf of the Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse (ACTS) to express my support for the organizing rights of the Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) workers who are seeking to join the Communications Workers of America. The National Labor Relations Act guarantees these workers the right to form a union free from interference or coercion; it is my hope that CSD will respect that right and will not engage in anti-union activities.

ACTS is affiliated with the Faith in Action Network and is a multi-faith rooted organization committed to social justice. We recognize the value of the work that CSD Telecommunications Relay Service Operators do, and the importance of this service for the Deaf and hard of hearing. These workers are also members of our community in Syracuse, and we support their right to have a voice in the workplace. I understand that a majority of workers have formed CWA-CSD Workers United, and are now asking for legal recognition and to begin the bargaining process with CSD management.

I hope that management will not interfere with the union election process, and will engage in good faith with CWA-CSD Workers United by signing a neutrality agreement and voluntarily recognizing the union when an independent third party verifies that a majority of eligible employees have signed union authorization cards.

Respectfully,

The Rev. Dr. Eric C. Jackson, Board President
